Jetset Lifestyles

New lifegoal=learn how to fly
I have found my latest motivation to earn money, jetset weekends to wherever I want to with no thought of money. (good god, I'm so far removed from YHO days that it's kind of embarassing =.=')

Weekend Bali trip on the tab of colleague with cancelled family vacations = the sort of lifestyle that I can only dream of living.

Friday excitement building and leaving for airport at 5pm. Buzz was inimitable and we were practically bouncing out of our seats around 4pm.

Got into Bali at 11:30 pm that night and was poolside by 12:30 am, mojitos in the pool and rose petal sprinkled bathtubs at 3 am.

The Istana

Woke up the next morning to a sunny beautiful day cliffside in Bali. Routine went something like this- breakfast, swim, BBQ lunch, massage, TV, capturing sunsets. Absolutely fantastic holiday if I must say so myself.

Cliffside views

Hot stone massages are also very different, not sure hot rocks suddenly landing on my legs constitutes relaxation, but it was good!

Amazing sunsets, missed the actual sun-setting by minutes but got fantastic watercolour clouds instead.

Sunsets
Ku De Ta for dinner and clubbing after, bloody expensive Risotto, delicious Peach Bellini, guess it's all in the vein of expensive holidays! Clubbing at h'uu after, however music wasn't really up to the tastebuds (trashy Ke$ha anytime) so decided to head back earlier.

Next day we did a little bit of shopping and walking around in Seminyak, new bikini purchased! Then off to the airport and an end to a fantastic, refreshing weekend. <3

Love this action shot!

Iron Lady

"Watch your thoughts for they become words. Watch your words for they become actions. Watch your actions for they become...habits. Watch your habits, for they become your character. And watch your character, for it becomes your destiny! What we think we become. My father always said that... and I think I am fine. "

What struck me about this movie was actually it's eerie-ness. Some parts would have segmented into asian horror very nicely what with ghosts wandering corridors and a senile old woman.

I was holding back tears by the end when Meryl Streep as Thatcher, finally lets her husband go. Throwing in the reminiscing scene with "The King and I", and the dance scene reminded me a lot of my absolute fav.-"Sound of Music" scene with Captain Von Trapp and Maria outside the ballroom.I was relatively satisfied with the ending as it almost felt like closure, and was befitting of what fundamentally is a movie about an ordinary woman, doing extraordinary things.

Yes, Meryl Streep is absolutely a conoussieur of acting. Michelin Stars x 100. Her Thatcher voice, attitude and mannerisms are so remarkably accurate that it is the crux which the movie is formed around. I hazard to say that without someone like her helming the movie, it would not have reached the depths that it managed to.

Some aspects of the film got a little irritating, in that Margaret's mannerisms are kind of grating-"methinks the lady doth screech too much"-but the dialogue was eloquent and showed how a movie doesn't need explosions, hot models and robots to hit a home run. All it takes is the ability to tap into the human emotions that come with leading an everyday life that was/is extraordinary. It also made me emphatize a little with all the world leaders who often come under such barrages of criticism when it comes to their dealings with war and conflict. It's very easy to say "do not attack", we are not going to fight, but what do you do when your enemies are doing just that? Do you sit down and drop arms? Probably not. Given those circumstances and being in those shoes are responsibilities that show just how connected our decisions are in this life. How one presidents'/PM's decision can and will affect a whole generation and change the course of history forever.

Women in power. Nothing like it, and fundamentally, belief and conviction. That's what summed up this movie.

Burqa vs Bikini

In reference to a cartoon that someone had posted on facebook, I thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth seeing how 2 weeks later the judgement call was made against my own dressing. =.=

From my viewpoint, it seems as though both points end up running into the same conclusions, that on both ends, societies role dictates the choices that they make.Maybe because history is so skewed to a pro-western stance across all facets of life that defines our general experiences, so that we inherently side the bikini wearing woman because that is the norm we are moving to in general. But I think the argument that society is responsible for the burqa wearing, and not the bikini wearing is wrong. Both are choices that one makes, but dictated within the larger cultural boundaries that occur.

To us religion has started to become a lesser shaper of general life. If you are non-religious, it doesn't matter, no one will really care (although saying that Malaysia is probably one of the worst ones, where race=religion!). In that way, since burqa-wearing is to some degree a function that occurs because of religion, so do we dismiss it as being a worser outcome. We equate burqa with oppressive religion, while we equate bikinis with free society, yet religion is a function of society anyway, therefore burqa=society norms=bikini

Who is to say what is right? Maybe we should just accept things as they are. But when it happens to you, there really is nothing that can erase that indignant feeling of 'it's my body, I'll do what I want with it'. To be told that I should not be showing my legs shows absolutely no respect for me as a person, but who am I to say anything in a country so dominated by 'muslim-isms'. Maybe I'm the disrespectful one? But it was more the fact that she made a judgement call on 'short'. Aye, there's the bloody rub innit.

This also links back nicely to the concept of rape and how some girls are 'asking' for it. There is absolutely no such thing as that. It is also with irony that a religion that expounds control and restraint also requires their women to cover up so as to not 'tempt' the senses. Where is your religion when rape is happening? Where is that restraint you've been honing every day, 5 times a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year?

I often try and keep an open mind but with issues like this I cannot help but rant.

Zielschmerz

There's this growing feeling of an unknown entity. This sensation that one day someone is going to turn on the spotlight, shove me into it and facing a sea of unknown faces I will be forced to do something I am not ready for, not able to, and not wanting to.

It's that same heartpounding fear that probably stemmed from messing up majorly a Grade 4 piece, that same fear that attacked on carpet time in Year 5, that same fear of missing free throws, that same fear of standing on blocks before diving into icy cold water. That.

It never goes away.

24 hours

Where 12 is spent sleeping and the other 12 lazing around...OR.

Where 1 is spent face down in the mud kicking bootcamp ass!
4 hours at financials and being indignant over dress codes
1 hour getting lost and getting a tour of 5 districts
1 hour of wanton mee yumminess
5 more hours of work
3 hours of dinner, cake, churros, mojitos
2 hours of lock and key entertainment
6 hours of dancing and debauchery
1 hour of mamak-ing

Too fun.
